Corporation for Supportive Housing Publications:

Closer to Home: An Evaluation of Interim Housing for Homeless Adults is a new study of the effects of providing low demand interim housing as a way of moving people off the streets and into permanent settings.

Not a Solo Act: Creating Successful Partnerships to Develop & Operate Supportive Housing is a user friendly how-to manual for nonprofits thinking about developing service enriched housing for homeless and disabled people. It details the potential pitfalls of trying to develop and provide services and tenant-sensitive property management for supportive housing.

Work in Progress is the interim report from CSH's "Next Step: Jobs" initiative, a three-year program to increase employment opportunities for the tenants of supportive housing. The report consolidates mid-initiative findings from NSJ's twenty participating nonprofit partners as to success and continued challenges in the first year of creating new systems for helping tenants access the world of work.

Growing Together: Linking Regional and Community Development in a Changing Economy explores the links between regional economic recovery and anti-poverty efforts. Focusing on the example of rebuilding in the aftermath of the 1992 civil unrest in Los Angeles, the publication illustrates the interdependence of a variety of development objectives. "Philanthropy and the Housing Crisis: The Dilemmas of Private Charity and Public Policy," by Peter Dreier (Housing Policy Debate, Volume 8, Issue 1) examines the role of foundations in America's housing crisis and suggests ways that foundations and housing organizations can work collaboratively on advocacy and organizing issues. Community Building Coming of Age, published by the Development Training Institute and The Urban Institute, is the result of a series of seminars which examined the historic movements out of which community building practice is evolving. The publication attempts to explain what community building is, and recommends how it might best be supported.
