Brookings Institution has released Metropolitan Magnets for International and Domestic Migrants by William Frey, which examines immigration into the largest metro areas from 1995-2000 and analyzes the racial/ethnic and educational characteristics of individuals who moved from these metro areas to other areas of the U.S. www.brookings.edu/es/urban/publications/200310_Frey.htm.

The Mumford Center Web site has new data on homeownership trends in metropolitan cities and suburbs across the U.S. Census data from 1990 and 2000 has been reanalyzed to provide information on homeownership levels, their effect on segregation and the characteristics of the neighborhoods where renters and homeowners live. http://mumford1.dyndns.org/cen2000/HomeOwner/HOsegdata.htm.

What Makes A Solution: Lessons and Findings from Solutions for America, by Paul Freedman and the Pew Partnership for Civic Change, is an overview of practices in solving community problems across the country. The Needmor Fund is accepting applications from organizations in AL, AZ, southern CA, LA, MS, NM and southern TX, (including San Antonio) from Nov.1, 2003 through Jan. 9, 2004.

The Academy for Educational Development is seeking applications for the New Voices National Fellowship Program, which awards two-year grants to U.S.-based nonprofit organizations that will include salary, financial assistance and a mentoring and professional development account. Deadline: January 12, 2004.

The Home Depot Foundation makes grants to nonprofit public charities that work to create and rehabilitate affordable housing. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $25,000. Proposals received between January 16 and April 15 will be notified in June.

Through its Homeless Providers Grant and Per Diem Program, the Department of Veterans Affairs provides funds to community, faith-based and nonprofit organizations, and state, local, tribal and territorial governments to help homeless veterans by providing up to 1,500 new transitional housing beds. The Public Welfare Foundation makes grants in the areas of community and economic development, criminal justice, disadvantaged elderly and youth, environment, health, human rights, population and technology assistance. Grants range from $25,000 to $50,000. Open deadline.
