How Welfare and Work Policies Affect Children: A Synthesis of Research by Pamela Morris, Aletha Huston, Greg Duncan, Danielle Crosby and Johannes Bos, synthesizes results from large-scale evaluations of 11 welfare and employment programs and provides evidence that some reform policies – those that simultaneously increase work and income – can improve children’s lives. www.mdrc.org.

New York City’s efforts to retain corporations to save jobs may actually have the reverse effect, according to Payoffs for Layoffs, a new report published by Center for an Urban Future. A large percentage of city retention deals have actually resulted in a reduction in city jobs.

“Urban Affordable Housing” is a new video available from the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California (NPH). It features several housing developments that highlight the benefits of urban affordable housing, such as neighborhood revitalization and the reduction of traffic and commute time. $15. 415-989-8160.
