MacArthur Honors “Creative and Effective” Nonprofits
Eight nonprofits will receive up to $650,000 to advance innovative work as part of The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. The award was designed to encourage creativity and build effective institutions to help address some of the worlds most challenging problems. more
Reinventing Community Development Could Begin With 47 Properites
Urban Essex County, New Jersey, one of the hardest hit areas in the state by the ongoing foreclosure crisis, could be the laboratory for an ostensible reinvention of community development, as a local CDC there announced today the successful acquisition of 47 mortgages on troubled properties with an eye toward high-impact neighborhood stabilization in some of the state’s oldest suburban communities. more
