Speakers are Gar Alperovitz, Juliet Schor, and a panel, “Voices of Today’s Youth: Occupy Wall Street and the Call for a New Economy.”
Juliet Schor is co-founder of the Center for a New American Dream and author of Born to Buy: The Commercialized Child and the New Consumer Culture, The Overworked American: The Unexpected Decline of Leisure, and The Overspent American: Upscaling, Downshifting and the New Consumer.
Gar Alperovitz is professor of political economy at the University of Maryland and founding principal of The Democracy Collaborative. He’s a former:
legislative director in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate; a former special assistant in the Department of State; president of the Center for Community Economic Development; and author of America Beyond Capitalism: Reclaiming Our Wealth, Our Liberty, and Our Democracy, and Unjust Deserts.
The panel, “Voices of Today’s Youth: Occupy Wall Street and the Call for a New Economy” will feature participants of the New York City Wall Street protest, as well as other student activists who reject a “broken economy system” and seek to shape equitable, sustainable alternatives.
